Affordability and energy reliability are at the center of today’s industry conversation. Across the country, we’re experiencing dramatically rising electricity rates driven by a rapidly emerging power supply/demand imbalance. Resource adequacy, capacity market pricing and reserve margins are no longer arcane industry terms, but mainstream topics, as power costs and availability call for immediate attention from policymakers. At the same time, long-term climate, sustainability and emission-reduction goals remain top of mind for both public and private sectors entities.

NJR is committed to a clean, sustainable future and we support public policy goals for greenhouse gas emissions reduction that address the urgency of climate change. The emissions reduction goals we have set for our own company reflect this; and our broader sustainability strategy prioritizes efforts to make broad-based decarbonization a reality across our economy, including our leadership in the development of solar and efforts to introduce low-to-no carbon fuels into our natural gas distribution system.
In 2021, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) launched Coastal Climate Initiative to help advance environmental restoration, preservation and stewardship in our coastal communities and beyond. This work is critical to promoting healthy ecosystems, which our quality of life depends on.
Over a year ago, NJR debuted a comprehensive, long-term strategy for our Coastal Climate Initiative, pledging up to $2 million over five years to support our commitment to environmental and natural resource stewardship. Over the course of the year, we’ve established and enhanced partnerships and worked together to support projects that have a positive long-term impact on our ecosystems, including the coastal environments that are vital to our community.
